What you need to play
Here’s what you need:
A Nintendo Switch (you do not need a system for each player) and the Mario Kart game. You will also need a compatible TV or monitor and up to 4 Joy-Con controllers or Pro Controllers. This is the full instructions:
1. Plug your Nintendo Switch Dock into a compatible TV or monitor and plug the Joy-Con controllers into the sides of the console. Press L and R to ensure they’re fully connected.
2. Remove both Joy-Cons from the console, then press either SYNC button on each Joy-Con to pair them with the console.
3. Press Y on each Joy-Con controller to enter Pairing mode, then press either SYNC button again to complete the process for both Joy-Cons.
4. Hold down A or X (or B or Y) on one of your paired controllers, then tap the SYNC button on that controller several times to toggle between Standard and TV Mode.
5. Once the controller is in TV Mode, hold down A or X (or B or Y) and press SYNC again to switch to TV Mode for the other paired controllers as well.
6. To play with more than 2 players, press SYNC on those controllers as well if they are in TV Mode.
7. After all players have been paired with the console, press HOME on the main console and tap the Up arrow to open the Nintendo Switch menu. Select LAN Play from the list of options and choose a region. Then select Create Session and then Ready to Continue.
8. Type a name for your LAN session before choosing whether to create a public or private session.
9. After choosing the appropriate settings, click Create to start your LAN party! You can invite friends by tapping their icon in the top-right corner of the screen and following the on-screen instructions.
10. Select your preferred control method, then enjoy Mario Kart 8 Deluxe!

How to play Mario kart on switch with friends

4. Once all players have entered TV Mode on their assigned consoles, tap anywhere on the screen to continue.
