.44 ammo is the primary ammunition type of the game introduced with the lvl 4 settlement perks , it’s very cheap and easy to get but sacrifices damage for reasonable range. It also requires no special perk to use which makes it one of the more common ammo types in fallout 4 compared to other ammo types like .308, .50 etc which requires you to invest in a special ammunition perk before you can begin using them.
Types of .44 ammo
There are two types of .44 ammo available for use one is the Black powder round which deals 25 damage with very good range and impact ,(the blue icon on your inventory) it’s not that common compared to hollow point rounds which deals 18 damage with decent range and impact(the red icon on your inventory) but are more common.
Where to Find .44 ammo Fallout 4
.44 ammo is fairly rare in Fallout 4, so if you want to maximize the use of your .44 revolver, getting all 120 rounds will be a handful. Here are some of our tips on finding all the .44 ammo out there.
1.) Treasure hunters
It seems that old military caches scattered throughout the map hold a chance of spawning .44 ammo, as well as a random assortment of other ammunition types. That’s not the only place you can find powerful military equipment, either. Scrap piles that dot the landscape will reward you with some military-grade junk to sell for caps or break down into weapon components on occasion. You’ll also have a chance of finding random military gear in containers like cabinets, desks, and dressers.
2.) Weaponsmiths
Weaponsmith vendors will occasionally have a small supply of .44 ammo for sale. These are the only merchants who sell this rare ammo, so stock up while you can!
3.) Craft it yourself!
Getting your hands on .44 ammo isn’t as hard as getting your hands on other rare ammo types such as fusion cells and railroad spikes. You’ll find a few of those heavy rounds lying around, but it will take some effort if you’re intent on maxing out the potential of your revolver.
4.) Disassemble!
This may seem counterproductive, but you can break down .44 rounds into their base components and use those materials to craft more of the same. If you want to maximize your supply of this ammo type, disassemble all the surplus rounds you find for their parts, then recycle them on a bulk basis later when you have enough components to make something worthwhile.
5.) Check the shops!
Finally, you can buy rounds from vendors if you don’t want to bother with any of that other stuff. While some merchants only have a few rounds for sale at a time, others will have a larger stock. If you’re going to shell out caps anyway, buying .44 ammo boxes from vendors will be the most efficient use of your cash.
6.) Fallout 4 .44 ammo locations (pre-war money only)
There are some locations in Fallout 4 that you can access early on or mid game to obtain pre-war money and therefore .44 ammo. One of them is the safe in Diamond City homes, located on the second floor. The rest are abandoned shops that you can find out in the Commonwealth, each of which has a few hundred caps worth of pre-war money in their safes. If you don’t have enough .44 to spare, just save before raiding the safe so you can reload if it all goes wrong!
7.) Fallout 4 .44 ammo locations (bolt casing only)
Two of the shops mentioned above, Milton General hospital and Coastal Cottage, will both have enough bolt casings to kit out your .44 revolver for most of the game. The rest can be got by looting military crates scattered throughout the map or by killing raiders if you haven’t already met them.
8.) Fallout 4 .44 ammo locations (hollow point only)
If you’re really struggling to find enough hollow points for your revolver, the Jangles the Moon Monkey location is a must visit. This spot has no cap value, but will give you over 700 rounds of this ammunition type just by clearing out some feral ghouls.
Conclusion
.44 ammo is one of the rarest types you can find in Fallout 4, but by following our tips you’ll have no problem stocking up on the rounds that you need for your preferred playstyle. Good luck out there!
